WHAT TO EXPECT

LESSONS:  Lessons are weekly and can be 30, 45 or 60 minutes long.  In these lessons we cover music reading, theory, technique, ear training, and composition.  Each lesson is tailored and planned for the specific needs of each student.

PRACTICE:  Practice is essential for a student to grow and progress as a musician.  Each student is expected to practice.  I collaborate with students and parents to make sure students are getting the most out of their lessons and effectively practicing at home.  Expectations for practice differ for every student and will be set according to age and experience.  Each student will have curriculum to work from that is chosen based on a student’s age and learning style.

DURING THE LESSON:  Lessons start and end on time.  When you arrive for your lesson, feel free to wait in my office while I finish the previous lesson. I expect students to bring their music.  Parents are welcome to sit in on the lessons, wait in the office, or run errands.

SALON PERFORMANCES:  Performances are strongly encouraged but not required.  There are many options for performing.  Salon Parties are informal recitals that I host before winter and summer break.  I call them parties so that kids feel they have a safe environment to perform for their peers, family and friends. They are a lot of fun and a great way to celebrate the accomplishments of every student.

PUBLIC PERFORMANCES:  There are also opportunities to perform and meet other piano students in the community through events hosted by the Eugene OMTA chapter.  For a list of these performances, please visit the Eugene OMTA activities page.
